Arowana Care eBook For the Passionate Hobbyists

Our farm just harvested a new batch of RTG fry – 31 babies altogether

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share with you pictures of RTGs (Red Tail Golden) that we harvested 3 days ago..? We are always excited when we have new harvest as every harvest means that our arowanas are productive.? icon smile Our farm just harvested a new batch of RTG fry 31 babies altogether It is very exciting especially if you are able to see the actual harveting being done.? I will try and record an actual?video of this soon to share with all of you.? ?
rtgfry01 Our farm just harvested a new batch of RTG fry 31 babies altogether rtgfry02 Our farm just harvested a new batch of RTG fry 31 babies altogether
?

Someone?ask me before at what age we sell the?arowana youngsters.? At this young age where the egg yolk is still attached, we definitely cannot sell them.? We will have to wait until the yolk disappears and they start to eat.? (Usually baby guppies, etc) When they reach this stage the mortality rate drops tremendously.? You can only sell them after a tag has been inserted into their body and this is usually only done?when they are about 7-8 inch long.?

Cheers!
Steven

i just wanted to know is there any probablity that i can purchase a baby arowana from your website . kindly email me the information and the procedure of trading from you people.

i would be interested in baby arowanas red chilli or any other except the silver or pearl arowana.

    Thanking you

    Munir Bhojani

  4. Steven says:

    Munir,
We only sell in bulk and not to individuals as it does not make business sense for us. Also we only sell the asian variety which is the gold, red and RTG arowanas and not the silver or pearl. Sorry.. You should be able to get one from a local aquarium shop in Pakistan if they do bring into your country. I am not sure unfortunately whether the asian variety are available in Pakistan.

    Cheers!

congrats to the new born 31 babies..u mean the new born babies is born at the new farm ?Wow.Ur luck is gd…ur arowana get adpated to new environment quickly.but seriously speaking i think that the place for breeding and the river water using is very important. If u found a gd place and gd water for breeding,u will lost count of how many babies are born but if it is a bad place.thats it..it really depends of luck ….ur luck is gd and wish u gd luck always..Hope to see more of ur arowana babies born..Gd luck.

    Darren,
Since the batch of 31 babies, we have had some more harvest recently… From memory, we have had :
    1) 18 RTG fry
    2) 20+ Cross Back fry
    3) 180+ Banjar Red fry (Grade 2 reds)
    4) 56 Red fry (Grade 1 reds just last friday)

Yes, we are definitely having a very productive period in our farm and I hope it continues forever!!! :-)

Steven, The photos othe frys are wondeful
Is it possible to purchase the frys.Is it in your farm.
    Thanks and regards
    george

  10. Steven says:

    George,
Yes they are from my farm. But no one buys such small fry because their mortality rate can be extremely high at this stage and they need to be looked after well. You would only buy them at about 6-8 inches long.

The other reason that I cannot sell you are this young stage is because we cannot put the chip in them at such a young age. Only after we have tagged them with the chips can we sell them as Asian Arowanas are protected under CITES..

  13. Steven says:

    Pundalik,
It is not so simple to start a farm as it involves a lot of preparation and initial investment. Anyway, asian arowanas has only been successfully bred in 3 countries, namely Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. So if you are in India, it would be extremely difficult for you to even start.

    Saman,
My book is an ebook which means all you have to do is purchase the book from http://www.arowana-care.com/arocare and you can download it almost instantaneously. :-) No hassles there!
As for breeding them, how big is your pond? It is not so easy to breed arowanas.

  21. Steven says:

    Kisshor,
I really don’t know about how to take them out of Singapore. You will have to check with the immigration when you come in. As for the price, the average price is about US$1500+. (ie. Grade 1 red arowanas)

  22. G.Ravi Krishnan says:

I am seriously planning to put up a Arowana Farm in India (Chennai). Mobilizing required finance will not be problem. I would like to do the farm in professional way.

Can any one let me know where to get the technical know how & any one will be interested in some sort of franchise arrangement.

    Please let me know.

    Beat regards,

    G.Ravi Krishnan

  23. Steven says:

    Ravi,
If you are thinking about the asian arowanas, unfortunately they have only been successfully bred commercially in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

    Steven

  24. G.Ravi Krishnan says:

    Steven,

I understood from various sites that it is being done successfully only in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. But I want know, will there be anyone to provide technical knowhow or franchise.

If you have any information on this, pl let me know.

    Ravi

  25. Steven says:

    Ravi,
You can try approaching some of the farms in those countries to see whether they would want to provide some sort of franchise or not. The farm that I’m involved in would not be interested unfortunately. Sorry.

    Steven

  26. G.Ravi Krishnan says:

    Steven,

Thank for your respond. What is your frank opinion someone starting a Arowana Farm with out any previous experience, but with your class, book & other inforamtions. How far you think it will be successful.

Meanwhile, I would like to have a breeding centre at a different location for breeding Clown Fish on commercial basis. Is ther any way you can give me some input.

    Best Regards,

    G.Ravi Krishnan

  27. Steven says:

    Ravi,
I think nothing is impossible but if you are thinking about breeding asian arowanas, the barrier to entry can be quite high. Firstly, it is still not proven that it can be bred outside the 3 countries I mentioned. Secondly, buying adult arowanas for your breeding pond can be very high. Please think carefully.

As for your clownfish venture, I can’t comment as I have no experience there. Sorry.
